It’s time for planting our little herb garden. This year we’ve got some rosemary, a couple of different varieties of thyme, basil, sage, oregano, cilantro, lavender and mint. Seems like a lot as I type but we’ve got the space and we’re ready to go.
This is something our whole family gets into. Bryce has her own little gardening tools and she recently pulled some flowering weeds and planted them in her sippy cups. We’ll hold onto those, but perhaps will move them into these little planters we painted:
Cute, huh? We also have some planters with hand-made wine-cork labels in this handy-dandy, portable caddy:
My sister gets the credit for this one. She put wine corks on speared posts that you can get at any garden center. Super cute idea, and let me assure you we have no shortage of wine corks up in here! Moving on….
We really worked up an appetite. This is one of my all-time favorite sandwiches not only because it’s super de-lish but because it takes 5 minutes to prepare. Who wouldn’t love a turkey bacon, lettuce, avocado and heirloom tomato sandwich? (All due respect to vegetarians, of course.)
Turkey B.L.A.T.
Turkey bacon (2-3 slices per sandwich)
1 large heirloom tomato
Romaine Lettuce (or any type of greens)
1 avocado, sliced
1 loaf of artisan bread (the above is a 7 grain bread)
Veganaise
Salt & pepper
I took a shortcut by cooking the turkey bacon in the microwave on a safe dish, covered in paper towel for about 3 minutes (we were hungry!)
Slice the bread into ¼ inch slices and toast lightly. Spread Veganaise on each slice, then sprinkle both sides with salt and pepper. Add the greens, tomato, avocado and bacon and go nuts.
Have a fantastic day!

Great Photo.. where did you find that lovely heirloom ?
New Seasons…it was de-lish.
I love the idea of using wine corks for plant markers. I am putting in a new garden around our deck that will combine perennials and veggies and I plan on using the corks.
That’s awesome Chris! You’ll have to email a photo when it’s done.
